Want an economical, eco-friendly air purifier you can make at home? Activated charcoal granules are all you need.

How to Make an Activated Charcoal Air Purifier at Home
- Buy some high quality activated carbon granules. 4×8 mesh size with high CTC and Iodine value is a good buy. Iodine above 900 is recommended.
- Get a jute bag pouch and cloth.
- Get a canvas-based plastic material through which air can pass.
- Put the granular carbon in the plastic canvas bag. Seal the bag with stapler or sewing machine. 150–200 grams per bag is ideal for home application.
- Then put that plastic canvas in a jute bag and seal the jute bag. Put a small jute rope around it for easy hanging.
- Blow through one side and see if air can pass through.
- Use for 15–20 days.
- Regenerate after 48 hours in the sun to remove adsorbed toxins, odour, and particles.
- Replace carbon after 20 days in the bag.
Now you can make a portable, eco-friendly air purifier at home — no electricity required.
Why Activated Charcoal Works for Air Purification
Activated charcoal’s enormous surface area (over 1,000 m² per gram) physically traps airborne VOCs, odours, and contaminants through adsorption. Granular activated carbon with a high iodine value is especially effective for home air purification — the same principle used in industrial-grade air filtration systems.
